In order for backup tapes to be there when you need them, you need to have a set of tapes off site.  Are your tapes stored reliably off site?  Where are they being stored?  In the floorboard of the receptionist's car?   Backup tapes also get unreliable after a surprisingly low number of uses.  How many times have your backup tapes been recycled?  When was the last time you bought new ones?  Is the person responsible for changing the tapes really changing them?  Are you certain?  Willing to bet your business on it?
