Is your small business website working for you, or does it just sit there? Sadly most small businesses have websites that are simple, static online brochures that may contain out of date material or functions that don't work.
Isn't it time that you turned your business website into a marketing tool that actually works for your business? If you last checked into deploying a business website several years ago, the times have changed. Today it costs less to build a website than it used to, and it's possible to build a website that works together with your marketing campaigns to generate website visitors and turn them into prequalified leads.
P3iSystems can build a website for you powered by the award-winning Joomla! content management system, which allows you to add new articles and content without having to know how to code. We can equip your website and make it work for you by equipping your site with several tools and methods including:
- Organic Search Engine Optimization: We make sure that your site appears in the front search pages in Google, Yahoo and Bing - without having to pay for adwords.
- Landing pages with interactive forms: We can create landing pages that work together with your marketing campaigns. Your marketing materials generate the traffic, the landing page educates your prospects about how your goods and services can meet their needs and offers them a chance to request more information, converting them from a site visitor to a prequalified sales lead.
- Website analytics that can help you measure the effectiveness of your marketing campaigns.

A Content Management System is a piece of software that sits in between a web server and the people who are accessing the website it hosts using their browser.
In a conventional website, the content of the site exists as individual pages stored as files called HTML (HyperText Markup Language) files. HTML pages contain the text that you see on a conventional web page and also contain links and formatting information so that graphics appear in the page and the content is formatted for form (columns, etc.) and typography (typeface, font, style, etc.). A conventional website is shown below. A conventional website like the one shown here has advantages and disadvantages. Some of its advantages are straightforward design, simple architecture and simple troubleshooting. Its disadvantages are that it is difficult to maintain - someone who knows how to code HTML has to make any changes to pages. Not only this, but when pages are added or removed, the website developer has to go through every page on the site to make sure all links still work. The difficulty and complexity of a regular website produces a reluctance to update it for fear of breaking the site. When you don't update, however, the information on the site gets stale and the site falls out of use.

Earlier we posted some tips on good website design. In this series I'd like to take you along on a site-seeing tour where we'll look at some truly ugly websites where the badness drives you away. This is a sort of "What Not To Wear" for your business website. In this first post of the series we'll look at a really common category of website ugliness: the home page that's just too busy. We'll start off with a case of epic homepage failure that's so bad it begs the question, "What were they thinking?" Some websites look like they probably started off innocently enough, but the badness began to spread and take over like cancer. Our first example is a contender for the ugliest site on the Internet: I give you Haven Works, which proudly proclaims it has been "Nominated for Most Poorly Designed Website in the World by Digg.com!" (if you can find it - it's there, trust me. |

Let's face it - lots of businesses have web sites that are ugly and don't work. P3iSystems deploys web sites that work for your business, using the award-winning Joomla! content management system (CMS), used on over 20 million websites worldwide. We work with your company leaders and professional graphic artists to produce a professional, attractive aesthetic for your site and back end technology that works for you.
Even if you don't choose P3iSystems to deploy your site, here are some do-and-don't tips that can help you make sure your company web site doesn't win awards for being terrible. Functional nuts and bolts - Your website's job is to tell your contacts, prospects, clients or customers what you can do for them, not how wonderful you are. Do your best to make your site about your customer, not about you. You're the supporting actor; your customer is the real star of the show.
- Make navigation easy - every page, every article should have interactive content that gives your client or prospect (the star of the show - remember?) a chance to talk about himself or herself. Make it easy for the customer to identify his needs. The story you're telling your customer is, "You know how frustrating it always is to deal with [the problem or niche your services address]? If you have that problem, you're in the right place.
- Give your prospects or clients multiple ways for you to give visitors the opportunity to give you their permission to market to them, but you have to do this without being in their faces or pushy. Give them reasons to want to talk to you, and give them interactive ways of doing so without having to switch technologies.
- Spelling and grammar mistakes make you look like an amateur - check your web copy and have someone else proofread copy before you post.
- Plan, plan, plan! Your business plan and list of your lines of business makes a great place to begin to plan a site map. Take the time to build a site map that can really show all the sorts of things you can do for your clients or prospects - spell it out for them. That will become the basis of your site map, and it will make a site which makes sense to you and to your visitors.

A lot of business websites are worse than useless, even embarassing to look at. You've seen them - business websites that are lame, outmoded, and contain little of use - and what information you can find on the site is outdated, dead, or erroneous.
There are several reasons for this: - Most businesses don't have web designers.
- Web site deployment is difficult and expensive.
- Updating a web site is difficult and expensive.
- It's hard to find someone who can do both artistic design and technical deployment.
P3iSystems has good news. New technology makes it possible to deploy your business website using a state of the art Content Management System (CMS) that allows someone with very little technical web experience to maintain and update your system. Best of all, there are excellent CMS systems available for free. That's right - FREE.
